Sports tournaments in Kota range from friendly weekend cricket cups to district championships and state selection trials. For players and parents, the hard part is often knowing what is coming up and whether an event is genuine. This guide explains the levels of competition in Kota, where official announcements appear, and the checks to make before you pay an entry fee.

A note on our old event pages. This site previously carried individual event pages for 2026 tournaments. We could not verify their dates, venues, fees or organisers against official sources, so we have removed them and redirected those addresses here. We would rather point you to the people who actually run events than publish details that might be wrong.

Levels of competition

School competitions. Inter-school tournaments are organised through school sports bodies and the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) pathway, from zonal and district levels up to state and national school games. Your school sports teacher enters teams.

College and university events. Colleges and universities in Kota compete in inter-college and inter-university tournaments. Ask your sports department.

Association championships. Each sport has a state association affiliated to its national federation. District and state championships in age groups are the main route to state and national teams. Examples:

  • Cricket: district association under the Rajasthan Cricket Association, affiliated to the BCCI. See cricket in Kota.
  • Badminton: state association under the national federation. See badminton in Kota.
  • Chess: rated events under the All India Chess Federation. See chess in Kota.
  • Tennis: events under the All India Tennis Association. See tennis in Kota.

Government sports programmes. The Rajasthan State Sports Council and the district sports office run coaching camps, competitions and trials. National programmes such as Khelo India include youth and university games with their own selection routes; our guide to Khelo India talent identification explains the KIRTI assessments for children aged 9 to 18.

Open and club tournaments. Clubs, academies and community groups run open tournaments, often around festivals or school holidays. These are great for match experience.

Road races and fun runs. Running events are organised by many different groups. See our athletics in Kota guide.

Selection trials

District and state teams are picked through trials and competition performance. Trial notices usually list:

  • sport and age categories (and weight categories in sports such as kabaddi),
  • documents required: age proof, identity proof, school certificate, photographs,
  • venue, date and reporting time,
  • any registration process.

Trials are often announced at short notice. The best way to hear about them is through a coach or club already involved in the sport, the district sports office and local newspapers. Our kabaddi in Kota and hockey in Kota guides explain trials in those sports.

Where to find announcements

  1. Your coach, club or academy. The most reliable source for most sports.
  2. School and college sports departments. For school and university competitions.
  3. District sports office, Kota. For government camps, competitions and trials.
  4. State associations and national federations. Official calendars and circulars.
  5. Local newspapers. Hindi and English dailies often carry trial and tournament notices.
  6. The Kota district administration website for district-level notices.

How to check an event is genuine

Before you pay:

  • Organiser: Is there a named organiser with a working contact? Is it affiliated to an association, if it claims to be?
  • Venue and date: Has the venue confirmed the booking?
  • Rules: Are categories, format, eligibility and prizes clearly stated?
  • Payment: Is there an official payment method and receipt? Be cautious about payment to personal accounts via forwarded messages.
  • Safety: For road races and outdoor events, is there a route plan, water, medical support and traffic management?

If something feels wrong, ask your coach or the district sports office before paying.

Watching events

Many school and district events are free to watch. For matches at the International Cricket Stadium in Nayapura, follow the district cricket association and local newspapers for schedules and entry arrangements.

Tournament season in Kota

The cooler months, roughly October to March, are the main season for outdoor tournaments. Summer brings camps and indoor events. The monsoon can postpone outdoor fixtures. Our guide to summer sports camps in Kota covers the holiday season.

For parents of young competitors

Tournaments are exciting but can be long and stressful for children. Check the age category and rules carefully, make sure your child is properly registered, and plan travel, food and water for a full day. Keep the focus on effort and learning. A child who enjoys competing will keep playing; one who is pushed too hard too early often quits. If a tournament asks for unusual payments, such as fees to “guarantee” a place in a team, ask the coach or the district sports office before paying.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Missing deadlines. Many entries close well before the event.
  • Wrong documents. Age proof is checked strictly in age-group events.
  • Wrong category. Check age cut-off dates; they are often based on a fixed date, not the event date.
  • Poor preparation for heat. Outdoor events in Kota can be very hot; bring water and shade.
  • Paying unverified organisers. Use only official payment methods and keep receipts.

Preparing for your first tournament

  • Read the rules and arrive early for reporting.
  • Carry documents, water, snacks and spare kit.
  • Warm up properly, and pace yourself across a long day.
  • Treat it as experience; results come later.

After the tournament

Write down what went well and what to work on, and share it with your coach. Keep certificates and results safely; they can help with later selections.

Preparing for trials and running events

Trials reward preparation over months, not cramming in the final week. Our guide on how to prepare for cricket trials sets out a 12-week plan, what selectors watch and the documents to carry; most of it applies to other team sports too. For younger children, read the best age to start sports for kids before committing to heavy competition schedules.

Road races, fun runs and half marathons have their own checks: who organises the event, whether the course is measured, the start time in hot weather, water points and medical support. Our guide to marathon training in Kota explains how to build up safely and what to check before paying an entry fee. New sports such as pickleball also have events appearing; check the organiser’s recognition before entering anything that claims national status.
