If you are looking for a sports complex in Kota, a stadium to watch a match, or a ground for regular training, this guide maps out the main types of venues in the city and district, from the cricket stadium at Nayapura to government sports complexes, clubs, campus grounds and private halls. It names venues only where we could confirm them from official records or reliable references, and explains how to check access, timings and fees, which change too often for us to publish.

How sports venues in Kota are organised

Sports venues in Kota fall into a few groups:

  • Stadiums and government sports complexes, used for matches, trials, district competitions and government coaching programmes.
  • Members’ clubs, with courts, pools and grounds mainly for members and guests.
  • School, college and university grounds, mainly for students.
  • Private academies and commercial venues, such as indoor halls, pools and turf pitches.
  • Open public grounds and parks, used for informal games.

Government sports infrastructure in Rajasthan is supported by the Rajasthan State Sports Council, the state’s apex sports body set up in 1957, along with the state Department of Sports. District sports offices handle coaching schemes and local programmes. National schemes such as Khelo India fund new facilities.

International Cricket Stadium, Nayapura

Kota’s best-known stadium is the International Cricket Stadium in Nayapura. According to published references, it opened in 1974 as the Municipal Stadium and has also been known as the J.K. Pavilion ground. It has hosted first-class matches for Rajasthan, including Ranji Trophy fixtures, and has been used for state T20 leagues.

What it is used for: scheduled cricket matches, trials and events. Can you play there? Generally not casually. It is not an open practice ground. How to check: follow announcements from the district cricket association and local newspapers for matches and events, and confirm entry arrangements before travelling.

Shrinathpuram Sports Complex

Government records on the Khelo India infrastructure portal list a project for laying a synthetic athletic track at Shrinathpuram Sports Complex, Kota, with the Rajasthan State Sports Council as grantee. A synthetic track is the standard surface for competitive athletics and gives runners a consistent, forgiving surface to train on.

Online directories also describe a swimming pool at the Shrinathpuram stadium. We have not been able to confirm current pool timings, access or fees from an official source, so ask the complex management directly.

Good for: athletics training and, depending on current facilities, other sports and coaching programmes. How to check: ask the complex management or the district sports office about current facilities, coaching, timings and fees.

Multipurpose halls in Kota district

Khelo India project records also list multipurpose sports halls sanctioned for Ramganjmandi and Itawa in Kota district, with the Rajasthan State Sports Council as grantee. Multipurpose halls typically host indoor sports such as badminton, table tennis, volleyball and kabaddi. Ask the district sports office about their status and use.

Members’ clubs

Kota has long-established members’ clubs. The Umed Club in Nayapura is one; its ground hosted a first-class cricket match in the 1970s, and the club is known locally for tennis and other facilities. Clubs are mainly for members and their guests, though some run coaching programmes open to others. Ask the club office about membership and guest rules. Read our tennis in Kota guide for more.

School, college and university grounds

Many of Kota’s schools, colleges and universities have playing fields, courts and halls. These host inter-school and inter-college competitions and are usually reserved for students. Outsiders should ask the sports department for permission rather than assume access.

Private academies, pools and turf pitches

Private venues fill many gaps: indoor badminton halls, cricket nets, swimming pools and small-sided football turfs booked by the hour. Quality varies widely. Our beginner’s guide to joining a sports academy in Kota explains how to judge them, and our best places for badminton in Kota guide compares types of courts.

Open grounds and parks

Informal cricket, football and running happen on open grounds and in parks across the city. Rules on use, timings and entry fees vary; some parks and promenades charge for entry or close at fixed times.

Which venue suits you?

  • Watching a big match: the International Cricket Stadium, when matches are scheduled.
  • Regular athletics training: Shrinathpuram Sports Complex, subject to current access and coaching arrangements.
  • Coached indoor sport: sports complex halls, clubs and private academies.
  • Casual games with friends: open grounds, parks and bookable turf pitches or courts.
  • Summer swimming: see our swimming pools in Kota guide.

Planning a visit: what to check

Before you travel to any venue:

  1. Is it open to the public? Many venues are members-only or reserved for scheduled programmes.
  2. Timings: ask for current opening hours, which change by season and around events.
  3. Fees: ask whether there is an entry fee, booking fee or monthly charge.
  4. Rules: shoes, clothing, guests and equipment.
  5. Safety: first aid, drinking water and, for pools, lifeguards.

Weather and seasons

Kota’s summer heat (roughly April to June) pushes most outdoor activity to early mornings and evenings. The monsoon (roughly July to September) can close grass and earth grounds after heavy rain. The cooler months are the main season for tournaments. See our guide to sports tournaments in Kota.

New sports and fitness at existing venues

Venues change what they offer as demand changes. Badminton halls and multi-sport courts are increasingly used for pickleball, because a pickleball court is the same size as a doubles badminton court. Sports complexes and gyms may host boxing classes, martial arts, yoga and dance fitness such as Zumba in their halls. Turf pitches host small-sided football as well as box cricket, and most ask for turf shoes; see football boots for turf. If you are looking for a particular activity, ask the venue office directly what runs in each hall, in which batches, and whether outside coaches or groups can book space.

How to check current information

  • Government venues and coaching: the district sports office in Kota and the Rajasthan State Sports Council.
  • Infrastructure projects: the Khelo India MDSD portal lists sanctioned projects.
  • Cricket matches: the district cricket association and local newspapers.
  • Clubs and private venues: contact the venue office directly and ask for written rules and fees.
